Many things we take for granted such as: eating out, cable TV, buying fresh fruit and vegetables, new clothes, reliable transportation and the ability to pay the co-pay for medications are challenges for elders on tight budgets

Supporting Local Seniors

Our lives are enriched by the frequent outreach connections we host with the seniors who are residents of Oakwood Apartments. Our Outreach to Oakwood started with a party on Aug. 9, 2014 in the Oakwood Community building. Volunteers from Christ’s Church grilled hamburgers and hot dogs and served other “picnic” fare, while our musicians provided live music. We had goody bags for everyone and one person at each table got to take the floral centerpiece home—it was a big hit! This was followed by a second “picnic “party in September.

So far, we have held at least one event per month at Oakwood and everyone is beginning to really look forward to them. We intend to continue – and strengthen – this wonderful connection throughout 2015, starting with a soup social.

Our goal is to bring joy, hope and laughter to these people, forgotten by society, living on tight budgets, with chronic medical conditions, mobility issues, and – for many – little or no family support. We hope our community will offer financial support as well as come forward with ideas of ways in which this connection can be strengthened and made more substantive—-it is truly an evolving relationship!
